Sometimes we stumble...
Updated: Sep 17, 2021
I think one of the most frustrating things as an artist is that we will have bad days that affect our ability to believe in ourselves. In the last day I have certainly had difficulty, and looking at this website I am full of doubts as to the validity of me trying to help anyone else when I am in a bad place myself.
That said, I am determined to continue. If anything by going through these things I will actually be more qualified to explain my processes for getting out of it. And this post is exactly one of those.
If you don't feel like you are worthy of your work, do the work anyway. By doing the work you are on your way to becoming more worthy, regardless of if you are now or not. Practice makes perfect and all that. You will also find that when you eventually get out of your bad place there is a reasonable chance you will feel you were worthy all along, and because you kept working through that rough patch, that makes you even more so. And that's a pretty good feeling to be honest. There is also the fact that even though it may be hard to do things now, and this applies to when you are in a good place doing things you don't like so it's equally uncomfortable, you are just getting things done. Future you will thankyou for it.
There are many reasons to continue through regardless of how you feel about what you create. Generally I find the person who is most incorrect about your own work, is you. So the one person you shouldn't listen to, is yourself. Would you tell a friend to stop working on what they love because they don't feel good enough? Probably not! So don't do it to yourself either.
Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. :)
